Birthday Scavenger Hunt Ideas For Kids

An annual scavenger hunting activity is great fun. We have lots of ideas for kids scavenger hunts on Mykidstime. A birthday scavenger search can be a fun way to have some extra crazy fun with your child or make the party more fun for everyone.

What is a Scavenger Hunt, you ask?

A scavenger hunt’s basic concept is to give “hunters” either a list of things to find, or a combination of both. You can make scavenger hunts more like treasure hunts, where you must follow clues or solve riddles in order to find the item you are looking for. I have included some examples.

These are nine different ideas for birthday scavenger hunting. These can be adapted for birthday parties while others are great for big days.

I hope you have fun organizing and hosting your hunt.

Things to Look for on a Scavenger Hunt

This is a list that the birthday child must find, or their friends must find together. You might ask them to bring the items back if they are participating in a “things-to-find” hunt. You might also give them a bag to carry their items around on the hunt.

Here are some fun ideas:

  • It’s tiny
  • A fluffy thing
  • Something pink
  • A garment you wear.

Things to do on a Scavenger Hunt

This is a list that the birthday child and their friends must do together. You will ask them to complete the task in front of you, or to take a picture to prove it.

Here are some fun ideas:

  • Ask for an autograph from a neighbor
  • All your team members should be in the smallest possible space
  • Photograph the team in a different reflection than a mirror.

A photo scavenger hunt

You can make a list of activities that birthday child or groups of friends must do. Then, take photos. If it is a group hunt, it’s a good idea for you to stipulate that every photo must include at least one member from the group.

You could ask them to take pictures of the following:

  • a group hug
  • A rainbow
  • Polka dots
  • A statue or someone who is a statue
  • Something red

Selfie Scavenger Hunt

It’s similar to the photo scavenger hunting, except that selfies are the main focus. Get teams together to take pictures of themselves with items. These are just a few ideas to get you started.

  • Selfie with something colorful
  • Take a photo in front of a tree
  • Selfie with something circular

Find Your Birthday Presents With These Clues

This is similar to the one I held as a child for dad’s birthday presents. You create clues that your child can use to locate their gifts. These clues can be as simple or as complex as you want.

These clues will give you some ideas:

  • Look for the first clue that will allow you to see your reflection
  • Next, shoes should be kept clean and tidy.
  • Next, look for places where you might find a book.

Scavenger Hunt Clues Using Pictures

You could have your child read a picture clue and create a Picture Scavenger Hunt if they are younger. You could also take photos of the locations you plan to hide your clues, and then print them out to use as a guide.
